Aspiring Leaders United Helping to Change the Story
November 24, 2015
Aspiring Leaders United (ALU) believes every child deserves the opportunity to realize their full potential. To support the next generation of Leaders, ALU is working to provide books for Battle Creek’s Verona Elementary Library. As mentioned in a previous blog post, the group is working to raise $3,000 and holding book drives to outfit the library with hundreds of new books.
On November 20, ALU Council members volunteered their time at Verona Elementary Library. The library has amassed a large collection of books; however, many are outdated or irrelevant to the preschool through fifth grade age group. As a result, Council members removed hundreds from the library’s shelves. ALU is working to refill the shelves to expand on the current collection and provide new series for the children to enjoy.
Junie B. Jones and Diary of a Wimpy Kid series are both in high demand at the school, but there aren’t enough of these popular books to go around.
The library’s old books will be given to children at Verona’s next Literacy Night.
