“Stryker’s mission statement begins with the word, ‘Together.’ That word fuels our commitment to our customers, to our business and to our community,” said Sue Ewing, Stryker human resources. 

 

Ewing organized the Day of Caring project through United Way. She also helps organize and lead Stryker’s annual employee campaign in Kalamazoo.

 

Nine Stryker employees, including Stryker CEO Kevin Lobo, lived out that commitment through sweat, toil and smiles during the May 20 project at Eleanor House, a rapid rehousing center for homeless families. Eleanor House is operated by Housing Resources Inc. (HRI).

 

The Stryker team landscaped the property, planted flowers, cleaned and mulched the play area, and did interior cleaning. They also provided new toys for the play area and several new computers to replace the lone, ailing unit used for homework and job searches. They ended the day over lunch with Carlos, Donna and their children Q’Mara and Xavier, a family staying at Eleanor House, who shared their challenges and hopes for a home of their own.

 

“Stryker is amazing!” enthused Michelle Davis, Executive Director of HRI. “They totally transformed the look of Eleanor House, and their generosity really helps our residents. We’re so grateful!”

 

Mike Larson, President and CEO of United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region, also praised the generous and compassionate work of Stryker employees.

 

“Every year, Stryker employees step up as volunteers and donors to make our community a better place,” he said. “Their dedication instills confidence, working together, we can forge a vibrant community where all people realize their full potential.”
