United Way Campaign: It's All About Impact
September 20, 2016
As we kick off our 2016 campaign, there’s no better way to do so than by spotlighting the partners and programs that help drive impact—fueled by our community’s generosity.
So the campaign launches with our announcement of $6.03 million in new investments in 88 programs addressing Education, Income, Health and Basic Needs. These investments are the first under our new impact strategy.
Unveiled earlier this year, the impact strategy sets specific, measurable outcomes and collaborative efforts with a strong focus on equity. This collective work is based on a new vision: “A vibrant community where all people realize their full potential.” By leading shared efforts that engage diverse people, resources and ideas, United Way expects its impact strategy will produce healthy, educated and financially stable individuals and families across the region.
The new investments included $1.8 million in 30 programs targeting education; $1.22 million in 21 programs around income; $808,450 in 10 programs focused on health; and $2.19 million in 27 programs supporting basic needs.
These are initial, strategic investments, and more are on the horizon. We’re currently soliciting proposals for other supportive and innovative programs that can jump-start change in our region.
Our current campaign is vital to our ability to keep making these investments and drive long-term, sustainable impact. Leading campaign efforts in Battle Creek is Rebecca Fleury, Battle Creek City Manager; and Mike Roeder, Chief Operating Officer, Fabri-Kal Corp.
In addition, 2016 brings the return of the UWBCKR Sweepstakes, which will award a new automobile up to a value of $30,000 to a randomly chosen person who gives to this year’s campaign. Donors are automatically entered if they are first-time givers of at least $50 in undesignated funds or give an undesignated gift that is at least $25 above their previous year’s donation. Deadline, rules and other information are available by clicking here. The 2016 Sweepstakes is generously supported by the following: Kellogg Community Federal Credit Union, Cole Automotive Group, DeNooyer Chevrolet, Orrin B. Hayes Inc., Metro Imports, Seelye Auto Group, Lakeview Ford, Henkel Automotive Group, Heritage Chevrolet, Harold Zeigler Automotive Group and Sunshine Toyota.
Our impact strategy opens the door for local people to get engaged in their local community, whether as donors or volunteers. In fact, we’re already making progress! Check out our new scorecard, available online at www.changethestory.com under the Resources tab, or by clicking here. I also invite you to check out our new video that demonstrates how we’re changing the story in our community.
To make our community vision real, we need people to get involved. Financial support is crucial to our work that’s changing lives, and we invite people to support our campaign. Likewise, we have many opportunities for people to connect to that work as volunteers.
Working together, we really can make an impact that lasts a lifetime!
